Zeroh + AshTreJinkins REDUX

Fun fact: patkins and I were at this show. It was nuts.

So, you may have heard that we love Zeroh the BlqBrd. One of the first posts we put on this fuckin blog was this little track called "parkbench," which featured killer lyrics and a brutal beat by AshTreJinkins.

parkbench (prod. ashtrejinkins) - Zeroh

Well, they just did a second take, for a new EP collab they have coming out. You know that fucking awesome bit at the end that fades out far too quickly? They fuckin looped it. And it sounds awesome. Zeroh is on point here.

This makes me real happy. Expect a writeup soon on Zeroh's recent mixtape, he's blowin up. Stay trippy.

AshTreJinkins & ¢hit$ - The$tomp [REVIEW]

Oh yes, ladies and gents. The time has come. AshTreJinkins, a freaking fantastic 17-year-old beat music producer (previous posts), has released a split beattape, The$tomp, with like-minded producer ¢hit$, who I'm fairly unfamiliar with. But he's also great, the two fit really well with each other, vibe-wise. These guys are NOT amatuers; they're fantastic producers, the both of them, so let me tell you, it is a freakin DEAL that you can go grab this for FREE at their bandcamp. Although you are allowed to pay for the album if you'd like, and I highly suggest you do. These beats are for sure worth some cash. You can listen here if you'd like, however:

REVIEW PORTION:
The tape opens with ¢hit$ on a beat called "Sawdoff," which has some neat, crisp claps and clicks riding over what seems to be a bitcrushed kick drum, all bathed in a gorgeous synth/string sample. Then AshTreJinkins takes the reins on "Gremlins," which makes brilliant use of fat, ominous synths and what sounds like, well, a bunch of gremlins snarling and growling. Really cool beat. Then ¢hit$ is back, holding down the softer, more contemplative end of the tape with "Travaja," before AshTreJinkins comes back in (you can see the pattern here) with the brutally skull-crushing "CaveDwellers," which gains extra points for sampling Monty Python. But I absolutely love the super dark and atmospheric vibe he's got going on his half of the tape. Really top-notch production, you've heard me rant about this kid plenty before. The rest of the tape sees ¢hit$ getting down with some really cool synths on "19," AshTreJinkins moving from a percussion-oriented vibe to yet another incredible beat (all saturated in GORGEOUS ambient synths) on "Symbolic Rainforest," and the two remixing one of each others' tracks. They essentially take the same approach on both ("aSymbolicRecreate" and "Travaja (Jinkins'SourDownfallRmx)," each taking the ambient aspects of the other's original and adding a heavier beat. And both work exceedingly well.

Point is, this is an awesome tape. You should go get it, as a reward to yourself for sitting through my ramblings and ravings.

Lobster out.

BUT WAIT! Another reason why you need to dig this AshTreJinkins kid: he's coming out with ANOTHER tape as well!! How's that for productivity?! So expect a post on that soon...possibly accompanied by Crustacean Cognition's first interview?! Keep your eyes on this page............

9/11/10 Wavelength of the Moment: AshTreJinkins

The kick drum in this song could shatter skulls. Seriously. Ugh. Disgustingly good.

CaveDwellers - Ashtrejinkins

May I reiterate that the dude is seventeen. SEVEN-FUCKIN-TEEN. And he pumps out beat after beat, all original and brilliant...including two of my favorite 0. tracks. Lots of fire on his Soundcloud, as well as a free (and AWESOME) EP at his Bandcamp. We've posted on him before, here, here, and here.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

((P.S. Because patkins is working simultaneously on two college degrees (the overachieving fuck), it looks like the blog is now shamelessly mine. So I'll put up some "real" posts soon, I've been doing these mini ones as sort of a courtesy to my fellow sea creature, but he's all BUSY and shit, so WHATEVER.))

(( pax, bitches ))

AshTreJinkins

Ladies and Gentlemen, AshTreJinkins. A 17-year-old (!!!) beat music producer from California who did the production for the 0. track I posted a while back. That was such a glorious beat that I just had to check him out, and I've been giving his Dec. 2009 DirtyDreamz EP a listen this week. These are some neat tracks, make sure to give em a listen. He does moody, subby ambient beats then effortlessly switches to synthy bangers. He's posted the EP for free on Bandcamp, so check that shit out!

Zeroh Tolerance

This jam is the work of an awesome Hip-Hop/Electronic producer and MC known simply as 0. (or “Zeroh”), a member of the LA-based WEDIDIT Collective, whose latest success Shlohmo you’ve probably heard of if you follow the L.A. Beat scene.

parkbench (prod. AshTreJinkins) – 0.

Really impressive production by 18-year-old AshTreJinkins, though I wish that awesome three-bar bit at the end would last longer... Either way: deep kicks, godly handclaps, and that smooth vocal sample just make this a simply beautiful piece of glitch-hop-tronica (new genre name? I think we need one for all this stuff…). I'm definitely looking into his shit.

Then there’s 0. I just downloaded his ennui beattapes, and MAN is this dude impressive. About half his stuff is just this trippy live-electronics stuff, glitchy as fuck but with the same hip-hop influence underneath it all. Then he starts rapping, and the hypnotic awesomeness just triples. AMAZING flow and lyrics.

He did three beattapes for WEDIDIT, each one produced in a week, and the results are fantastic and diverse. I suggest you cop that shit.
