NEW GROUNDISLAVA HOLY SHEETS

2010 was freaking incredible. Once I decide to get off my lazy ass, patkins and I will probably do a 2010 recap post, reiterating what we loved about it. But since we're already here, why not explain why we are going to love 2011?! Here's a sampler. Read: LANGOSTA IS SO FREAKING PUMPED RIGHT NOW.

If you don't know WEDIDIT stalwart GroundIsLava, get your ass ready for some awesome music. A combination of tripped-out beats, gorgeous chords, and dazzling synths, his productions never fail to blow me away. This EP is no exception, so watch out, because he is gonna blow up this year. Blah blah video-gamey beat music/8-bit electronica blah blah blah. "He's really frickin good" is the point.

Get THIS FREE EP...

...then watch out for his debut LP on Friends of Friends, dropping sometime in April.

absolutely. fuckin. beautiful. the instrumental version of a remix he did for FoF's Pop Massacre comp, which we loved HERE (it's free).

Los Angeles, St. Paul, London. Beats. CC's 100th Post

If you pay much attention, you can feel the beat [scene exploding]. Here is a new Shlohmo track, plus some stuff from up and coming acts/people you probably didn't know about... enjoy! I know El Langosta will.

Feels like you are in a cave, dripping with water, with an indie band at the very back of it playing. One of CC's favorite indie bands, I might add. Ethereal processing and shlohmo's characteristic staccato synth lines... awesome.

I don't know anything about this guy (mostly because i failed to do any research), but this is really cool. Awesome percussion and groove, with 'motivational' samples throughout... really cool. I play this a lot.

This guy is signed to Ghostly International Records (Gold Panda, Shigeto, Mux Mool).. so you know he keeps good company. He is relatively unknown (a recent addition to the label), but his Shigeto/Mike Slott-like atmospherics sound pretty nice.

Another up-and comer.. Dibiase is from LA as well (El Langosta posted video of him spinning with Zeroh a few posts back). This track is very rap track-y.. in fact, i think he may have even played it in that set i parenthetically mentioned. Anyway, worth checking out.

This guy is from London. He's awesome. Besides the fact that anything with the word 'fox' in its title makes me happy, Fantastic Mr. Fox makes more forward things (think Flying Lotus' Do The Astral Plane more than, say, Matthewdavid or Shigeto). Anyway, i think this is a bunch of clips off of one of his singles.. i really can't find much from him. It's all buried in shit related to some stupid movie...

Everything collected in a folder: Beats + Hobbits

Further proof that 8 Bit lives, and that so does Lord of the Rings. lol.

Proof that Fidget House isn't dead and 8-Bit lives

This post has two parts to it - a FIDGET HOUSE portion and an 8-BIT portion... with zips for both.

FIDGET HOUSE
Fidget house pretty much happened in 2009 - by 2010 it was clear that dubstep had taken its mantle of the 'new genre around' and has pretty much owned a lot of the blogosphere's focus this year. Parenthetically, i would mention that i predict the Beat scene that Langosta and I love so much will take over dubstep as the 'new' thing. Anyway, i think its a shame that fidget house is more rare, because there is no denying how funky it is to put a wobble bassline under a house beat. Luckily, its not COMPLETELY dead, and this post is proof. I spotlight two duos - Jack Beats and 2 Bit Thugs - who are pretty much champs of the genre (along with names like AC Slater). Be sure to check out the zip too, because i have included some special gifts [read: random cool shit].

I Don't Want To (JB Dub edit) - Example
THIS IS EPIC. the drop pretty much smacks you in the face with wobbly undulating low end. it makes you unable to not dance. yep.

Insane In The Brain (2 Bit Thugs Remix) - Cypress Hill
2 Bit Thugs essentially remix rap, creating a genre called bmore. i still consider it fidget house.. this has a 2 minute intro with a rap breakdown and everything... its a great use of the original song. And of course, the bass. what can i say. LOVE IT

Shutterbug (JB Remix) - Big Boi

This isn't as good as the above, but still worth having. Theres another one of those rap breakdowns towards the second drop... again, awesome. check it.

Ba Bada (2 Bit Thugs Bootleg) - Jackinori
This IS SIMILARLY EPIC. absolutely sick bassline, and interesting eastern vocals at the opening... i love this too.

Special Gifts (Zip ONLY)

One (Foals Remix) - Swedish House Mafia
YEP. INDIE BAND DOES SHM. A Foals remix of One (the vocal version, obviously). Very entertaining/worth having.

The Kids Don't Stand A Chance (Miike Snow Remix) - Vampire Weekend
I like Miike Snow and I (don't hate me) like Vampire Weekend. So... anyway. this works really well.. arpeggiated, low-end heavy synth pop awesomeness. Sick on a good subwoofer.. in a dorm room...

8-Bit it lives!
this part of the post is about Old Grey Wolf, an indie 8-bit producer from New Zealand. I'm giving you his free demo of music. He performs live with his own hand-built chipsets and everything.. its really cool. This is fun stuff to play to confuse people or yourself.. or just to rock out in the mornings. Enjoy
Old Grey Wolf Demo Zipp

Anyway, thats all for now... thank god i finally got this up!

9/5/10 Wavelength of the Moment: 8-BIT DUBSTEP

Oh yeah. You heard me. And yes, it is as AWESOME as it seems in theory.

Chip - Doshy

Dunno who Doshy is, save that he's German and GODDAMN THIS TRACK IS GOOD. Nabbed it from XLR8R, the dudes have their finger on a really fuckin' cool pulse in music today. Bookmark that site, seriously. They give away SO much free music, most of it awesome; I discover like a new favorite artist a month through those guys.

~ ~ ~

And while I was on this particular wavelength, I was vibin' to this here joint: the monthly Low End Theory Podcast, this time featuring Low End Theory/Alpha Pup Records founder Daddy Kev, slamming you in the face with bass and beats. Similar vibe to the Doshy track. Also on this podcast that makes it the best thing ever: Baths, brilliantly mixing his already-released material with some new shit...THAT I LOVE. As expected. Seriously, get this fuckin mix, you will not regret it.

(( DO (( NOT (( MISS )) THIS )) SHIAT ))

Lobster out.
