Drink the Kool-Aid, Eat the Sundaes: GOBBLE GOBBLE at the Great Scott, 4/9/11 + goodies

this is the best i could do for photo-taking
The soreness i currently experience in my neck is the result of the massive amount of head-banging i did last night when i saw Gobble Gobble live for the first time. Although we have already done a concert review on these guys, i think they merit another one. Seeing GBL GBL is truly a cult experience; with mystical balloon figures, half naked band members in tutus and on stilts, samplers taped to shovels, tarps thrown over the audience... its pretty much madness. The show was only about 80 to 100 people, but everyone there raged their minds out. In Fjust a 30 minute set my friends and i went from somewhat comfortable to drenched in sweat, unable to speak, and generally exhausted (we got sundaes after though). With a great number of acoustic and electronic instruments, Cecil Frena and his fairy minions made a glorious cacophony of harmony, producing their anthemic glitched-out jams right before an audience. This is one show that you MUST see. I'm considering seeing them again tonight, if it weren't for all the reading i know i should be doing.

Goodie Bag:
Felix And The Mural (Baths Remix) - [Post-Foetus]
Marriage (Baths Remix) - Gold Panda
Alejandro (Skrillex Club Remix) - Lady Gaga
Mega (Schizofonics Remix) - Shizofonics
Watch Out - Doctor P

Cause I Feel Like It #$

if you haven't inferred from our AWESEOM MIXES, El Langosta (pictured) and I dj.
we will dj your party!

hi there. i am avoiding my homework.

House/Club
Canblaster - Clockworks
SO GOOD. Canblaster is someone to watch. Get this for sure.

Wobble (Original Mix) - Albin Myers
Prog meets fidget house. insane. thanks apes with barrels

Pop Remixes
YEP!

Eh, okay. Nice shotgun sample

Party And Bullshit (In the USA Remix) - Miley Cyrus vs Notorious BIG
GET THIS if you don't have it already. play it at parties, people will be your friend

I've already posted this but think it needs to be posted again - Alex B goes apeshit on Kanye W

These guys, from LA, are pretty much their own genre. Describing Nguzunguzu's sound is about as easy as saying their name (its not). Suffice to say it is clubby, hot, tropical, heavy electro. Its very odd in many ways and you need to be in the mood for it.. but they are fascinating. Watch out for them for SURE (along with Canblaster).

Bonus Tracks
Walking With A Ghost (Tegan And Sara Cover) - The White Stripes (Removed)
Now that they broke up we have to celebrate them!

Avantcore - Busdriver (Removed)
This is mostly here for El Langosta, because we both love indie rap. Busdriver is a member of the Nobody/Nocando cadre. that means its awesome. i mean, the track in this is essentially a piano jig with clever and light lyrics on top. loveeeeeeee

an epic load of good dubstep

wobble. mmmm.
Dubstep definitely isn't something that is posted often on this blog, but thats mostly because a lot of dubstep really isn't any good. Anyway, I have found a lot of epic stuff recently that is worth sharing, with some extra goodies as well. Pick it all up here: Dubstep + Goodies

This is dubstep. This is rap. This is angry as fuck. This is epic as fuck. Download this and blast this.

Exactly what it sounds like. Confuse everyone you know.

Although Trumpdisco themselves deny that this is dubstep, this is awesome dubstep. The original is good too, but this just kicks asssssssssssssssssssssssssss. If you downloaded the minimix i made for Langosta, then you would have heard this.

This is Flux Pavilion. He makes amazing dubstep. He uses crazy arpeggiated synths and heavy bass. This is what dubstep should be. If i can hear something like this played on speakers the size of my body, i can die happy.

This is perhaps the best track of this entire post. Datsik kills it almost every time, and I love Dragonette's voice.. (she was on a Martin Solveig track that i posted here as part of my mix). This is just so well crafted. God i love...

Yes, fleet foxes dubstep. No, its not bad, either.

Bonuses (aka not dubstep):

Further proof that Fidget House isn't deadAwesome. The bass might be mixed a bit too heavy, but still. you can't not dance to this.

Awesome Tech house... excessively catchy bassline and about as indie a dude as it gets (he's living in berlin to work on music and a moustache.. and quotes thoreau).

Dubstep + Goodies (collected in a folder)

love,

Proof that Fidget House isn't dead and 8-Bit lives

This post has two parts to it - a FIDGET HOUSE portion and an 8-BIT portion... with zips for both.

FIDGET HOUSE
Fidget house pretty much happened in 2009 - by 2010 it was clear that dubstep had taken its mantle of the 'new genre around' and has pretty much owned a lot of the blogosphere's focus this year. Parenthetically, i would mention that i predict the Beat scene that Langosta and I love so much will take over dubstep as the 'new' thing. Anyway, i think its a shame that fidget house is more rare, because there is no denying how funky it is to put a wobble bassline under a house beat. Luckily, its not COMPLETELY dead, and this post is proof. I spotlight two duos - Jack Beats and 2 Bit Thugs - who are pretty much champs of the genre (along with names like AC Slater). Be sure to check out the zip too, because i have included some special gifts [read: random cool shit].

I Don't Want To (JB Dub edit) - Example
THIS IS EPIC. the drop pretty much smacks you in the face with wobbly undulating low end. it makes you unable to not dance. yep.

Insane In The Brain (2 Bit Thugs Remix) - Cypress Hill
2 Bit Thugs essentially remix rap, creating a genre called bmore. i still consider it fidget house.. this has a 2 minute intro with a rap breakdown and everything... its a great use of the original song. And of course, the bass. what can i say. LOVE IT

Shutterbug (JB Remix) - Big Boi

This isn't as good as the above, but still worth having. Theres another one of those rap breakdowns towards the second drop... again, awesome. check it.

Ba Bada (2 Bit Thugs Bootleg) - Jackinori
This IS SIMILARLY EPIC. absolutely sick bassline, and interesting eastern vocals at the opening... i love this too.

Special Gifts (Zip ONLY)

One (Foals Remix) - Swedish House Mafia
YEP. INDIE BAND DOES SHM. A Foals remix of One (the vocal version, obviously). Very entertaining/worth having.

The Kids Don't Stand A Chance (Miike Snow Remix) - Vampire Weekend
I like Miike Snow and I (don't hate me) like Vampire Weekend. So... anyway. this works really well.. arpeggiated, low-end heavy synth pop awesomeness. Sick on a good subwoofer.. in a dorm room...

8-Bit it lives!
this part of the post is about Old Grey Wolf, an indie 8-bit producer from New Zealand. I'm giving you his free demo of music. He performs live with his own hand-built chipsets and everything.. its really cool. This is fun stuff to play to confuse people or yourself.. or just to rock out in the mornings. Enjoy
Old Grey Wolf Demo Zipp

Anyway, thats all for now... thank god i finally got this up!
