We have finally been granted an official video from one of our favorite albums of the year, Bad Vibes: a haunted, hallucinatory, Halloween-ready trip through the woods, directed and edited by the man himself: Henry Laufer, alias Shlohmo.

An unsettling enigma from beginning to end (not unlike its musical source material), this video does an excellent job of showcasing Laufer's tact in visual storytelling: nothing is explicated, no answers await the perplexed viewer when they reach the end of this dark journey – only elusive images of windows and silhouettes, like distant memories briefly flitting in and out of our consciousness as we are dragged through the dim forest...

You gotta check out Bad Vibes if you haven't heard it yet. Shlohmo's making some really beautiful sounds right now, and we can't wait for what comes next (dance music, apparently).

And on a less exciting note, it's likely that I'll be reducing my posting to more like once a week from now until the new year...unfortunately (for you dear readers), I've been cast in a production of "Hamlet," and as one can imagine, rehearsing for that is gonna take up a shitton of my (previously free) time. So hopefully patkins will be able to pick up my copious slack. Though it's also possible that I'll still manage to post more than him.

Even after laying all that good shit on you last night, i still have more for you! The music scene never stops moving forward, so why should we? Most of this post is a bunch of indie beat-type stuff, including the up and comer Dorian Concept (see photo). He is actually currently touring with Flying Lotus (aka instant respect), and is much more than a pad-mashing producer. He dabbles in Jazz and in other projects, showing that he has the perspective on his music that i ascribed to Teebs as well. Besides Dorian, though, i have some more Baths and Teebs for you... and some Mau5. We stick to the favorites here, you know. Trilingual Dance Sexperience - Dorian Concept

This reminds me a lot of eLan + Flying Lotus. Basically, a sweet sawtooth synth line thats had the shit syncopated out of it, with a catchy beat underneath it that is fun to dance to. Pretty cool. Then, at the second iteration of the theme, he adds a rumbling, heavy bass on the bottom to make the room vibrate as you dance. 

Nightmare (Dorian Concept Remix) - Phat Kat and Guilty Simpson

I've never heard this song before in my life, but it really makes me wish that ALL mass-produced rap could sound this way. considering that the Beat movement essentially birthed itself from rap tracks, now what makes a rap remix awesome is that a beat producer redid the track. 

Impulse (Teebs' Neck Feathers Remix) - Gaslamp Killer and Daedelus

Oh look, its the trio thats touring RIGHT NOW! all in ONE TRACK! Anyway, I wanted to post this with the stuff from Ardour (here), but thought that might be a BIT too much Teebs. I like this track, its very simple but still has Teebs' masterful counterpoint of lilt and thump that attract me to him. 

Pop Song - Baths

Baths put this out today, and Langosta linked me to it... Mr. Wisenfeld dismissed it as a sketchy thing he threw together in his apartment, but its still definitely Baths and therefore worth having. Its very relaxed, and somewhat reminds me of Nordic Laurel and some of his other projects (Post-Foetus and Geotic). 

In Ruins (Baths Remix) - Fol Chen

I have no idea who Fol Chen is, but he released this Baths remix for free with his In Ruins EP. Its essentially Baths + echo-y, romantic lyrics. Again, Baths, therefore worth having and enjoying.

BONUS: 

This is extremely entertaining for anyone that loves Deamau5 or knows his music well. AKA everyone here at this blog, don't know about you guys... also, really hoping he didn't mix this live. I would be impressed beyond belief.

Teebs' Ardour LP came out today. Its fucking awesome, if you haven't looked into it yet. For the love of beat music, buy it here. Its rich, melodious and catchy. You can tell it was produced by a musician and not a pad-mashing, synth-tweaking music box... pure excellence. I am SO fucking excited to see him play here in Boston. With that many northern european names remixing this track, it better be good. and it is. The original version of Alcoholic came out with a TON of remixes, and i found this to be the best one. Heavy prog house banger... bedroom rave status!

This is from the Teebs/Daedelus album from the Los Angeles series. Its only available if you buy it from them on tour (which i plan to do when the come to Boston 11/3 with the Gaslamp Killer). Anyway, i found this on XLR8R. Cool shit.

I found this one by combing his SoundCloud - i suggest you do the same. Theres lots of good stuff that artists post on their soundclouds (especially beat producers) that you can just straight up download. This is one of those tracks. It's a treat - syncopated, heavy beats with 0. rapping on top of em. Download this.

I found this on FMLY, i think. Essentially <3, slowed down and with interesting bleeps and bloops dropped in. Good homework music.
